Title: ISERN Vision and Mission Statements
Co-Chairs: Carolyn Seaman and the ISERN Visioning Committee (Andreas Jedlitschka, Markku Oivo, Dieter Rombach, Jeff Carver, Casper Lassenius
Abstract: The ISERN Steering Committee has begun the process of creating a MIssion Statement and a Vision Statement for ISERN. A committee has been working on this task and has asked for input from the ISERN membership through a survey in April and May 2023. Based on that input, we have created a first draft of the ISERN mission statement. At this session, we will go over the process we used to create the draft, present the draft itself, and gather feedback and suggestions from the attendees.
Session Goals:
- Share the draft ISERN Mission Statement with the ISERN membership
- Gather feedback on the draft statement
Development of the Session: There will be a presentation on the process thus far and the draft mission statement, then there will be a structured interactive session to gather feedback.
What means for interaction will be used or required? There will be specific questions posed to the participants, and they will be asked to discuss their responses to the questions in small groups and then in the full group. Notes will be taken for the visioning committee to continue refining the draft.
Background and recommended reading: None
Expected Outcomes and Plan for Continuing the Work beyond ISERN: After the session, the visioning committee will finalize the draft mission statement and create an accompanying vision statement, both of which will be reviewed and approved by the ISERN Steering Committee. The final versions will be presented at the ISERN 2024 meeting.
