SEAMS 2021
Tue 18 - Fri 21 May 2021
co-located with ICSE 2021
Wed 19 May 2021 15:55 - 16:00 at SEAMS Room - Community Debate Chair(s): Danny Weyns

This paper argues that change alone is sufficiently difficult; simply, handling change, i.e., anticipated changes, remains the ultimate challenge of self-adaptation.

Shang-Wen Cheng tackled his doctorate at the Institute of Software Research with the Carnegie Mellon University School of Computer Science, advancing the state of art in software architecture based self-healing systems, particularly Rainbow and Stitch.

After finishing graduate school, he fully immersed himself in industry, first spending 6.6 years at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory designing and autocoding flight software for the Soil Moisture Active Passive mission, later serving on its operations team; subsequently spending 4.8 years at Uber Advanced Technologies Group engineering safe self-driving tech; and currently on the Safety Engineering team at Aurora Innovation, engineering safe self-driving software (Disclaimer: My conference attendance and paper are separate from my Aurora role).

He continues to find ways to apply research ideas from software architecture, self-healing systems, and multi-objective trade-off analyses.

When not thinking about self-aware systems, he enjoys spending time with his lovely wife and two boys, watching Asian drama episodes, virtual biking, and doing random projects with the kids.
