From the beginning of the computer age, people have sought easier ways to learn, express, and understand computational ideas. Whether this meant moving from punch cards to textual languages, or command lines to graphical UIs, the quest to make computation easier to express, manipulate, and understand by a broader group of people is an ongoing challenge.

The IEEE Symposium on Visual Languages and Human-Centric Computing is the premier international forum for research on this topic. Established in 1984, the mission of the conference is to support the design, theory, application, and evaluation of computing technologies and languages for programming, modeling, and communicating, which are easier to learn, use, and understand by people.

The 2024 symposium is scheduled to take place in September 2024 in Liverpool, United Kingdom, and will be collocated with PPIG 2024, so you can anticipate some exciting shared sessions and interesting discussions! VL/HCC 2024 is Sponsored by IEEE Computer Society Technical Committee on Multimedia Computing (TCMC).

On Monday 2nd September, we have three exciting satellite events running: the Joint VL/HCC & PPIG Graduate Consortium, a Workshop on Addressing Challenges in Recruiting Participants for Human-Centric Computing Research Studies, and a Tutorial on Exploring notation design. The main VL/HCC 24 conference will then run from Tuesday 3rd September until Thursday 5th September, having a shared programme with PPIG on Thursday 5th September, with PPIG running from Thursday 5th September until Friday 6th September.

VL/HCC is indexed in Scopus, DBLP, IEEE Explore, WoS.
