Gebore, tot sy verbasing, in Dunfermline (Dùn Phàrlain) die antieke hoofstad van Skotland; een van die belangrikste antieke Skotse hoofstede tot in die tyd van Jakobus VI van Skotland (James I van Engeland) en die Unie van die Krone in 1603. Dit is terloops ook die geboorteplek van Andrew Carnegie en die rusplek van Robert the Bruce wat is in 1329 in Dunfermline Abbey begrawe minus sy hart wat in Melrose Abbey begrawe is.
Venter is a Reader in Software Engineering at the University of Huddersfield. He is a founding member of the Sustainability Design Alliance (www.sustainabilitydesign.org) and co-author of the Karlskrona Manifesto for Sustainability Design (https://www.sustainabilitydesign.org/karlskrona-manifesto/).
He is the course leader for the Software Engineering programme and leads the Centre for Sustainable Software Engineering at the University of Huddersfield.
Venter is also a visiting academic at CERN (https://home.cern) and is associated with the ATLAS project (https://atlas.cern) and Beam Instrumentation Group.
Venter received his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Manchester (U.K). He is a member of IEEE and ACM and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
