Call for Papers
ECSA 2022 opened up a partnership with Journal of Systems and Software (JSS) and IEEE Software to incorporate journal-first papers into its program. Authors of journal-first papers accepted by JSS or IEEE Software since January 2021 are invited to submit their work to be presented at ECSA 2022. This will allow authors of journal-first papers to present their work to the community.
Scope
A journal-first paper submitted to ECSA 2022 must adhere to the following criteria:
- The paper must have been already accepted after peer review by JSS or IEEE Software.
- The paper is in the scope of the conference.
- The paper has not been presented at, and is not under consideration for, journal-first programs of other conferences.
Submissions
Authors of manuscripts that respect the above criteria are invited to submit a summary of the original paper that highlights the contributions for the community together with a pointer to the original journal paper.
The submission must conform to LNCS style. Note that if you want the summary to be included in the ECSA 2022 proceedings companion volume, it must be 6-8 pages long. For the companion proceedings, ECSA 2022 will use a two-step process. Online proceedings (available before the start of the conference) will include all the accepted contributions (including Journal First summaries) to the companion proceedings and will be published online on the ECSA 2022 web page (i.e. no formal proceedings). The accepted contributions will be accessible only by the ECSA 2022 workshop participants. After the conference, we will organize LNCS post-proceedings, in which the contributions will be published.
Proposals must be submitted must be made electronically via the online EasyChair submission site for the ECSA 2022 conference, selecting the “JournalFirst” Track: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=ecsa2022
Evaluation
Authors will be invited to present their paper at ECSA 2022 after a check that the paper is in scope of the conference. As the papers have been already reviewed and accepted by the journal, they will not be reviewed again for technical content. Our plan is to include in the journal first program as many papers as possible; only in case an exceptionally high number of proposals is received, not all submissions might be selected. If needed, presentation proposals will be prioritized according to fit to the conference theme and structure of sessions.

Presentation
ECSA 2022 is planned as a hybrid conference, with the in-person events taking place in the beautiful and historic city of Prague in the Czech Republic. (Please note that there is an option that the conference will go fully online if required. Please, check the website for future announcements.) The presentation of the journal paper will happen as part of ECSA’s main program.
As journal first presenter, you will have all the benefits of the conference presentation, such as outreach to wider audience, interactions and discussion with peers, and feedback by peers on your work.
At least one author of each presentation accepted for the journal-first program must register and attend the conference to present the paper. The summary of the journal-first manuscript will optionally be published in the proceedings as part of the ECSA 2022 companion volume.
