Traveling to Tartu
The PROFES ’24 conference will take place in Tartu, Estonias second largest city. Tartu is located in southern Estonia at the river Emajõgi.
It is possible to travel to Tartu by
- Plane (Tartu airport is located about 10km from the city center)
- Train (Tartu train-station is located 1,5km from the city center - tickets and timetables: https://www.tpilet.ee/en/)
- Bus (Tartu bus-station is located in the city center - tickets and timetables: https://elron.ee/en)
Traveling by plane
If you plan to travel to Estonia by plane it is possible to either fly to Tallinn (180km from Tartu) or to fly directly to Tartu.
When flying to Tallinn, the easiest option to travel to Tartu is to take a Lux Express bus from Tallinn airport to Tartu. The bus stop is directly at the airport and the bus takes around 2,5 hours. It is equipped with multimedia screens and (for a small additional fee) very comfortable seats in the business class. Tickets can be bought in advance here: https://www.tpilet.ee/en/ or in the bus in case there are free seats left. Another option is to take the train (https://elron.ee/en) from Tallinn to Tartu, the train stop is, however, not located directly at the airport.
Another option is to fly directly to Tartu from (or via) Helsinki. The flights between Helsinki and Tartu are operated by Finnair. Tartu airport is a very small nice airport that only services two flights per day to and from Helsinki. It is possible to get to Tartu either by bus (https://www.tpilet.ee/en/ bus stop for the airport is “Lennujaam”, tickets cannot be purchased in advance online, one ticket when bought in the bus either in cash or with card is 2€), by taxi (https://tartu.ee/en/taxis), or with a ride share app (Bolt, cost 10€-20€ depending on availability). Given the small size of the Tartu airport there is no need to worry about security check waiting times as people standing in line are all going to board the same one flight.
