An Eclipse OMR-based Garbage Collector for Python
Implementation and evaluation of garbage collectors~(GCs) is complex without modularity and transferability in design. This complexity leads to less maintainable and secure GCs. The Eclipse OMR GC framework provides high performance GC policies that can be used to rapidly prototype garbage collectors for managed runtimes.
In this talk, we present the design, implementation, and experimental evaluation of Eclipse OMR-based garbage collection for PyPy, a Python implementation. The resulting GC is simple, easier to maintain, and has fewer bugs. The experimental results show that modular design can still achieve high performance for garbage collection in PyPy.
