Session 2: How to modernize ISERN to better serve the Software Engineering community
Background and mandatory reading: Please read the ISERN manifesto and membership rules before the session.
Abstract:
ISERN will turn 30 years old in 2023. It was established by the six founding members and organisations and has grown to a network of about 60 members and organizations around the world. This is a good time to meet and think how we could modernize ISERN and its manifesto.
Session Goals:
Topics:
-
What is ISERN, what should be the goals of ISERN? What would be the ways to reach these goals?
-
Are the membership rules of ISERN supporting ISERN goals?
-
What kind of participation rules of ISERN meetings would support ISERN goals?
-
Is the ISERN organization sustainable and strong enough to support its evolution? How do we select steering committee (SC) members and SC chair? Do we need any other bodies than SC in the ISERN organization?
-
What should be the ways of working during the ISERN meetings?
-
What should be the ways to increase collaboration between the meetings?
Development of the Session: (How will the session be conducted? How much interaction?)
What means for interaction will be used or required?
The session will be organized as a world-cafe type of a meeting.
Expected Outcomes and Plan for Continuing the Work beyond ISERN:
Proposals to renovate ISERN, foster collaboration, renew ways of working and membership rules. The proposals will be processed in the ISERN steering committee meeting at the end of the first ISERN meeting day.
Materials:
colored post-its, flipcharts for each table, colored pilot pens, tables and chairs, space in the room for posting post-its/posters (from flipcharts), each table has 4-8 participants.
