Developers bump into problems when they stand together at the whiteboard, while writing or making changes to code, and when configuring application frameworks. Though errors are problematic when software is deployed, the qualitative studies reported here demonstrate that human error is an integral part of software development practice. Through error handling, developers grow as professionals, by refining ideas, managing organizational demands, making social connections, and learning.
