Eduard C. Groen is a Senior Requirements Engineer and Project Manager at the Department of Digital Innovation Design at the Fraunhofer Institute for Experimental Software Engineering IESE in Kaiserslautern, Germany. His work predominantly focuses on designing complex systems in a wide variety of domains, including digital ecosystems and the Internet of Things, and is driving the development into Digital Sustainability.
He is best known for his resarch on “Crowd-based Requirements Engineering”, which he coined at the REFSQ’15 and has published on in venues such as IEEE Software, RE, REFSQ, REConf, NLP4RE, and CrowdRE. At RE’24, he will be presenting an RE@Next! paper on CrowdRE for Digital Farming.
Eddy holds a master’s degree in Psychology with a specialization in Engineering Psychology from the University of Twente, the Netherlands. He is pursuing his PhD on CrowdRE at Utrecht University, the Netherlands under Prof. Dr. Sjaak Brinkkemper and Prof. Dr. Fabiano Dalpiaz, which focuses on the derivation of functional and non-functional requirements from natural language texts.
He is a Program Committee member of the RE, REFSQ and CHASE conferences, and since many years for the NLP4RE, SEmotion, REWBAH und AffectRE workshop series. He is the incumbent Workshops co-chair for REFSQ’25, and has co-organized the CreaRE (2017–2021), CrowdRE (2017, 2019–2021, 2024, Steering Committee), and AIRE (2018) workshops.
