Optimising the Carbon Footprint for Cloud Resources in a Cloud EnvironmentGREENS 2024
In today’s IT world, where most companies focus on sustainable development, reducing the carbon footprint is becoming essential for cloud providers who are providing services either as IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service), PaaS (Platform as a Service) or SaaS (Software as a Service) to their clients, it’s imperative to provide this information so that clients can understand the impact each resource will cause on the environment. In this paper, we discuss an approach through which, by analysing the bills of popular service providers, we can propose suggestions to the IT admins to reduce their carbon footprints by providing them with projections so that IT admins can understand the impact of their cloud resources on the environment on a year-to-year basis. Following the suggestions proposed by the discussed model, enterprises can reduce their Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions and contribute towards a sustainable future.
