This hands-on workshop will guide participants through the sustainability challenges and solutions in cloud infrastructure, with a deeper dive into the energy implications of microservices in cloud environments. In the first half, Shilpa Shastri will lead a session on sustainability in cloud computing. Participants will take part in an interactive exercise designed to explore cloud optimization strategies that reduce carbon footprint. In the second half, Supriya Lal will shift the focus to the software layer, uncovering the hidden sustainability costs of running microservices and exploring potential cloud-based solutions. Attendees will monitor cloud costs and resource usage through a hands-on exercise, and gain insights into how architecture choices impact both energy consumption and cloud billing. By the end of the session, participants will be equipped with practical strategies to drive sustainability in both cloud infrastructure and cloud-based software architecture.

This room will be in use throughout the week for:

  • Workshops on Monday and Friday
  • Research Papers on Tuesday to Thursday

For the research paper sessions, there will be five tables, with a paper at each table. The author will have 30 minutes to discuss the paper with the group at each table, and will repeat this three times in the 90 minute paper session.

For the parallel paper video presentations, there will be 3 hybrid tables, with a paper at each table. The author will have 30 minutes to discuss the paper with the group at each table, and will repeat this three times in the 90 minute session.
