Architecting with Human in the Loop (HILA) workshop explores the intersection of human involvement in both architecting software and designing software for human-centric applications. The premise is that human factors significantly impact both the creation and the purpose of software systems, particularly in emerging fields like the Internet of Behaviors (IoB), adaptive systems, and emotion-aware software architectures.

On one hand, this workshop focuses on Human-in-the-Loop (HITL) approaches, where human decisions, interactions, and feedback dynamically shape the architectural choices and system behavior. This can involve systems that are constantly evolving based on real-time human input, behavioral modeling, and interaction patterns. This paradigm is increasingly important for systems such as adaptive UIs, AI-based software, and socio-technical systems.

On the other hand, it will examine architectures that are designed for human-centric applications, such as systems that track, respond to, and predict human behaviors and emotions. Applications in healthcare, smart cities, IoT devices, and the IoB paradigm necessitate architectures that are flexible, responsive, and adaptive to human needs. In addition, the impact of recent developments in artificial intelligence necessitates the re-consideration of human-centric software designs and architectural choices. This workshop aligns with software architecture research as it discusses new ways of structuring systems where humans are both architects and users. Topics such as real-time adaptation, user experience design, system flexibility, and socio-technical system integration are directly relevant to the future of software architecture research and industry practice.
