Call for Submissions: Doctoral Symposium

The APSEC 2024 Doctoral Symposium is an opportunity for PhD students in the field of software engineering to present and discuss their work/PhD study with other researchers and practitioners. The symposium aims to provide a venue for doctoral students to receive feedback from academics and industry experts on their research, and to network with other students and professionals in the field.

The Doctoral Symposium will be a half-day event where all attendees will present their work by focusing on one of their open research questions or PhD study reflection/methodology. There will be appropriate questions, discussions, and audience feedback after the presentations.

Submission Categories:

We invite submissions from PhD students in the following categories:

  • Early Doctoral: for students in the early stages of their PhD, have no/few publications that are core to their PhD and who are looking for early feedback on how to continue their PhD.
  • Late Doctoral: students who already have results that they wish to present at the symposium.
  • Post Doctoral: graduated students/researchers who want to share their PhD journey with junior PhD students, or network with other professionals in this field.

Submission Instructions

Each Doctoral Symposium submission consists of two parts:

  1. A personal statement. A short description about yourself (such as you name, affliation, research topic, advisor, expected graduation time, what you wish to share/achieve in this symposium). The Doctoral Symposium does NOT require submissions to be double-anonymized for the review.
  2. [Optional] A letter of recommendation from a student’s advisor. The letter should include student’s name, an assessment of the current status of his/her research. Note that the recommendation letter is optional. The letter should directly come from the student’s advisor and be sent in PDF format to the Doctoral Symposium Chairs (Dongsun Kim, darkrsw@knu.ac.kr, and Yanlin Wang, wangylin36@mail.sysu.edu.cn) with the subject: APSEC 2024 Doctoral Symposium Support Letter for [student name]
