Call for Papers: Software Engineering Education Track

The EDU (Software Engineering Education) track invites submissions of papers that present practical experiences and cutting-edge results in software engineering education and training. The EDU track aims for software engineering educators from academia and industry in asia-pacific and worldwide to share their effective education experiences and novel ideas to promote software engineering education.

Topics of Interest

The papers in the EDU track follow the general topics specified in the technical research track with a special focus on education and training. Additional topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Research on software engineering education
  • Methods and curricula of teaching software engineering skills
  • Extra-curricular training for students, relevant to software engineering
  • Methods of evaluating, assessing, and measuring software engineering skills
  • Studies investigating software engineering education contexts
  • Onboarding and on-the-job training of software engineers
  • Continuing education of software engineers with new technologies
  • Collaborations between academia and industry in software engineering education and training

Double-Blind Submission Guidelines

The APSEC 2024 EDU track will adopt a double-blind review process. Submissions should not disclose the identity of the authors to comply with the double-anonymous review process. For more information, please check here.

Submitted papers must have been neither previously accepted for publication nor concurrently submitted for review in another journal, book, conference, or workshop. The organizers reserve the right to reject submissions (without reviews) that are not in compliance or out of the scope for the workshop submissions and exceed the page limit.

EDU papers should not exceed their respective category page limit, including all text, figures, tables, and appendices. The page limits are strict, and non-compliance will result in a desk rejection. The following paper categories are welcome:

  • A research paper should have a maximum of 5 pages, including figures, references, and appendices. A research paper must address a topic related to software engineering education using appropriate research techniques and proper scholarly writing.
  • An experience report should have a maximum of 5 pages, including figures, references, and appendices. An experience report provides anecdotal evidence with the design of courses, curricular, extracurricular activities, strategies, techniques, tools, tool adoptions, or assessment methods. An experience report should interpret the experiences in terms of actionable lessons learned.

All submissions must conform to the APSEC2024 submission instructions. For more information, please check here.

Evaluation Criteria

Submissions will be reviewed by at least three members of the Program Committee, and they will be evaluated based on their categories:

  • Research papers will be evaluated on the basis of education and training relevance, originality, soundness, empirical and-or practical validation, quality, and consistency of presentation.
  • Experience reports will be evaluated on the basis of education and training relevance, significance, actionability, lessons, quality, and consistency of presentation.

Submission Link

Papers must be submitted through EasyChair: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=apsec2024

Important Dates

  • Submission Deadline: 9 Aug 2024 23 Aug 2024 - Submissions close at 23:59 AoE (Anywhere on Earth, UTC-12)
  • Author Notification: 25 Sep 2024
  • Camera Ready Deadline: 20 Oct 2024

Accepted Papers and Attendance Expectation

All accepted papers will be submitted to the CS Digital Library as the APSEC 2024 conference proceedings. If a submission is accepted, at least one author of the paper is required to register for and attend the conference to present the paper. The presentation is expected to be delivered in person, unless this is impossible due to travel restrictions (related to, e.g., health, visa, etc.). If an accepted paper is not presented, the paper will be removed from the proceedings.
