VAT EXEMPTION IN LODGING
Colombian law grants VAT TAX EXEMPTION in hotel accommodation if any of the following conditions are fulfilled:
The stamp on your passport or entrance document must show that you are entering as a tourist (PIP-5, TP-11 or PTP-5). Visitors entering Colombia must indicate their travel purpose at Migrations as tourists in order to get the PIP5 stamp. Showing this in any hotel, the participant does not need to pay 19% VAT.
Purchase a tourism package through an agency including accommodation and transportation.
Be a foreigner or Colombian non-resident, with less than 183 days continuous or discontinuous in the country (does not apply to foreign residents from countries that Colombia qualifies as "tax haven"). The rebate system is available to visitors who can prove with a valid passport or identification card that they live abroad, and who pay for their accommodation with a non-Colombian credit card or via bank transfer from another country.
