Travel and Accomodation
Traveling to Bern
We recommend traveling by train, especially within Europe. Bern is centrally located and well-connected via the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB). The main station (Bern Hauptbahnhof) is situated in the city center, within walking distance of most hotels and the conference venue.
If you’re arriving by airplane, the following airports are connected to Bern by public transportation:
- Zurich Airport (ZRH) – approx. 1h15 by train
- EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse (BSL) – approx. 1h15 by train
- Geneva Airport (GVA) – approx. 2h by train
Traveling in Bern and Switzerland
From the train station, local trams and buses run frequently. Free public transportation city tickets are included with most hotel stays—check with your accommodation provider. The Bern Ticket is easily accessible via the Bern Welcome App. We also recommend to pre-book the train connections in Switzerland and save up to 50% discount on the standard price.
The SBB Mobile App is ideal for public transport within Switzerland. It can be used to book train, bus, and tram tickets throughout Switzerland.
Accomodation
June can be a busy time in Bern with many events and lots of tourists. Therefore, we recommend booking your hotel early. We have blocked some room capacities for ICT4S participants in selected hotels with the Bern Convention Bureau. We recommend you to use this service as it provides attractive conditions with static, non-dynamic, prices. You can access and book these rooms here.
