WorkshopsICT4S 2026

ICT4S hosts several independent workshops that offer in-depth exploration of specific topics. All workshops take place on Friday, 12th of June at the main venue, Bern University of Applied Sciences, and may run for a full day, the morning, or the afternoon. During registration, participants who purchase a full-week or Friday ticket can select the workshop(s) they wish to attend.

Below you will find the workshop schedule. When registering, please ensure that you do not select workshops that take place at the same time (e.g., two full-day workshops or two morning workshops).

Workshop topics of interest

We welcome a broad range of workshop proposals addressing the design, impacts, opportunities, risks, and potential solutions at the intersection of ICT and sustainability. Proposals can both address the sustainability of digitalization and/or digitalization for sustainability. You can refer to the research papers track for exemplary topics.

Workshop formats

We invite workshop proposals of traditional or unconventional formats for half-day or full-day workshops. Workshops are to be held at ICT4S 2026 in Bern (hybrid may be possible upon request) on Friday, June 12th, 2026.

For inspiration, workshops can take a community workshop format, for example, community building and passionate discussion of emerging topics relating to ICT4S or a co-design workshop format where attendees convene to develop a vision paper or a special-issue journal topic where they complete a draft within the workshop.

Please note that you are welcome to publish a separate call for papers for your workshop. Please read the section “workshop proceedings” if you plan to.

Submission guidelines

Please follow the guidelines for submitting a workshop proposal.

1. Write a workshop proposal (2-4 pages long). The workshop proposals must include the following:
• Title – a workshop title
• Background - rationale for the workshop, including the aims and objectives
• Organizers - name and affiliations, short backgrounds/bios, including experience in organizing workshops or similar events
• Type of workshop - full-day, half-day, or evening and expected number of participants
• Preliminary agenda - a short description of the activities during the workshop and timeline
• Pre-workshop plans - details on recruitment for the workshop, e.g., the target audience communities, strategy for communication with these communities.
• Workshop requirements – specify requirements regarding room size, technical infrastructure, whiteboard, pens etc.
• Post-workshop plans - plans for the creation of tangible outcomes or outputs, and follow-up with attendees/ICT4S
• Call for Participation (CfP) - a 250 word CfP that will be posted on the ICT4S website in January
• References - a list with relevant references


2. Submit your proposal electronically via EasyChair in the “Workshop Track”.

Workshop proceedings

Workshops can, but do not have to, include workshop-specific call for papers. In case you plan one, please keep in mind that the submission and review process would need to be facilitated by the workshop organizers. Please inform the workshop co-chairs already during workshop proposal submission that you are planning a workshop call for papers and have it ready by 18 Jan 2026 for publication on the ICT4S website. If you publish a call for papers, please also explicitly invite participants, even if they are not planning to submit a paper.

We are aiming to publish the proceedings of all workshops with paper submissions, doctoral symposium papers and posters jointly via CEUR workshop proceedings. Therefore, we kindly ask you to adhere to the requirements of CEUR in your workshop call for papers, provided you plan one:

• Use the 1-column CEUR Article format for formatting papers
  • The template is available on Overleaf
  • Link to the ODT version
• For short papers, the minimum length has to be be at least five "standard" pages (with 2500 chars per page) and at max 9 pages including references
• For regular papers, the minimum length has to be at least ten "standard" pages (with 2500 chars per page)
• Ensure papers are peer-reviewed by a program committee of well-known international scholars, who are experts in the topics presented in the proceedings.
• Do not use the capitalization style for titles. E.g. write “Materials and methods” and not “Materials and Methods”
• Contributions must be original, i.e. not published in an earlier workshop or conference or journal!

If you have a workshop-specific call for papers, we recommend the following timeline. However, you may deviate for good reasons.

• Workshop call for papers ready and published (via ICT4S website and possibly conference organizers' own website): 18 January 2026
• Workshop papers due: 5 April 2026
• Workshop paper acceptance notification: latest 26 April 2026
• Workshop paper camera-ready: 17 May 2026
• Workshop start: 12 June 2026

Workshop submission timeline and evaluation

In case we receive an exceptionally high number of proposals, we may not be able to select all workshops. We will choose workshops that best fit the technical program, offering a balance across the conference topics.

Acceptance notifications will be sent out on 19 December 2025.
