Towards a closer collaboration between practice and research in Agile Software Development – What we learnt; and what not? AgilePR 2025
Agile methods, defined in the 1990s, introduced practices and values designed to meet the demands of rapidly evolving markets. Nowadays, agile practices and values are widely adopted across industries and cultures, helping teams navigate disruptive shifts such as AI integration.
Organizations now aim to extend agility beyond IT, aspiring to organization-wide transformations inspired by agile success. However, achieving this requires addressing key gaps in current research:
-
The time gap— a latency between rapid transformation in organizations and scientific analysis
-
The theory gap—limited theoretical grounding for sustainable adoption and cultural shifts.
Our objective is to learn how practice and research can move closer together and overcome the gaps. Therefore, this workshop addresses these gaps by creating a forward-looking research agenda, integrating insights from recent studies and real-world practices.
This workshop consists of a panel discussion with experts and an interactive part in which every participant can contribute. Participants will collaboratively explore these gaps and potential solutions and lay the groundwork for impactful research and practical advancements. By fostering dialogue between researchers and practitioners, we aim to spark ideas for future collaborative projects, driving meaningful progress in agile transformations. Join us to shape the future of agile research and practice.
