Call for submission
Workshops play a crucial role in fostering collaboration, generating new insights, and advancing the field of agile software development. They provide a unique platform for researchers and practitioners to explore emerging topics, share experiences, and build lasting connections.
Topics of Interest
Research workshops at XP 2025 aim to:
- Develop international collaboration in agile software development research
- Generate new insights on important topics in the field
- Create opportunities for in-depth discussions and knowledge exchange
- Produce valuable outcomes for the Agile community
Workshops can focus on any topic related to agile software development. We welcome both new topics and those that build on previous workshops. You can find examples of previous workshops on the XP2024 website.
Workshop Format
Successful workshops typically include a mix of interactive and prepared sessions. Organizers are encouraged to design engaging formats that may include:
- Interactive discussions and breakout sessions
- Short paper presentations
- Invited keynotes or expert talks
- Panel discussions
- Hands-on exercises or tutorials
- Lightning talks
Workshops are expected to attract 15-40 participants and can be half-day or full-day events. Short papers up to 8 pages may be included in post-conference proceedings published by Springer Lecture Notes, given that the workshop follows the quality criteria. These include:
- Three reviews per submission
- Acceptance rate of a maximum 45%
- Workshop organizers are not allowed to submit to their own workshop
Workshop Timeline
- Joint call for workshop papers out: January 15, 2025
- Workshop paper submission deadline: March 1, 2025
- Preliminary workshop programs ready: March 15, 2025
- Workshop paper selection by workshop chairs, notification to authors: April 1, 2025
- Workshop programs ready: April 15, 2025
- Workshop day at XP2025: June 2, 2025
- Camera-ready workshop papers and copyright forms uploaded: June 15, 2025
All workshop participants must be registered for the workshop day. Please note that there is no additional budget available to workshop organizers. One workshop organizer will receive a free conference registration as compensation.
Submissions
Please submit your workshop proposal as a PDF (maximum 4 pages) including the following information:
- Workshop title: Include iteration number if previously conducted
- Organizers’ names, affiliations, and contact information
- Potential program committee members (tentative list)
- Main motivation and target audience
- Workshop description (max 200 words) for the conference website

Format Details:
- Duration: Half-day or full-day
- Submission types: Short papers, industry experience reports, etc.
- Plans for proceedings or summary publication
- Expected number of participants
- Draft agenda and workshop plan
- Strategy for soliciting submissions and attracting participants
- Any special requirements for room setup
- Short bios of workshop organizers (max 100 words per person)
Accepted Workshop Organizers Will:
- Manage the call for papers (CfP) for their workshop
- Use the conference submission system for a transparent review process
- Adhere to the provided timeline for paper submissions and notifications
- Prepare a summary of the workshop for post-conference proceedings
- Ensure all workshop participants are registered for the workshop day
Review Criteria
Proposals will be evaluated based on:
- Relevance and timeliness of the topic to agile software development
- Potential to generate new insights and foster collaboration
- Clarity and feasibility of the proposed format and activities
- Qualifications and diversity of the organizing team
- Plans for participant engagement and interaction
- Potential for producing publishable outcomes
