Data is everywhere and in everything we do. While, on its own, data has little value, its analysis under the lenses of data science currently supports extremely valuable functions and systems. With data being considered the world’s most valuable resource, companies from all industries are looking to have in their teams people with great skills in gathering, cleaning and using data, regardless of their academic and professional backgrounds. However, little in known about these professionals. Thus, we conducted interviews with people working with data in a daily basis, to understand their background, the context of their work, the difficulties they experience and the technologies they use. With the gathered information, we hope to raise awareness amongst the data science community to the heterogeneous nature of data science workers.
