Software engineering education and reference guides and the Future: SWEBOK Guide, CC2020 and others

Moderator: Nobukazu Yoshioka (Waseda University)

Panelists: Akinori Ihara (Wakayama University), Maria-Isabel Sanchez-Segura (Universidad Carlos III de Madrid), Kenneth E Nidiffer (George Mason University)

Abstract: In software engineering and related areas, some reference models, frameworks, and guides, such as the Guide to the Software Engineering Body of Knowledge (SWEBOK Guide), Software Engineering 2014 Curriculum Guidelines for Undergraduate Degree Programs in Software Engineering (SE2014) and Computing Curricula 2020 (CC2020) have been adopted well as a fundamental basis for continuously developing curricula and industrial training programs. This panel overviews these guides’ status and evolution, then explores their impacts on higher education and training. Moreover, the panel envisions future directions of software engineering education, guides, and their connections.

AI/ChatGPT and software engineering education

Moderator: Hironori Washizaki (Waseda University)

Panelists: George A Tsihrintzis (University of Piraeus), Maria Virvou (University of Piraeus), Stephan Krusche (Technische Universitat Munchen)

Abstract: Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been having a significant impact on software engineering education and training. On the one hand, particularly generative AI and large language models such as ChatGPT are becoming important tools to support learning activities and educational content creation. On the other hand, educational curricula and professional training programs need to reflect recent AI-supported software engineering activities as well as software engineering activities for AI-based software systems. This panel discusses the state-of-the-art and challenges in such relations between AI and software engineering education and envisions their future.
