Like many large and historic organizations, Erste Bank has faced challenges in digitizing operations. George, the online and mobile banking application of Erste Bank, was created as a start-up within the bank, and is surely one of the most modern and innovative parts of the organization. Nevertheless, development and operations essentially functioned as separate entities with little understanding of each other. We describe the problems we faced with this set-up that we think are relevant to others, how we have addressed them, and what we have learned along the way.
