Scrum is an incredible framework for improving team performance, and delivering value on a small scale. But what happens when the challenges extend beyond what Scrum can address? In this talk, I’ll share my personal journey of stepping out of the traditional role of a Scrum Master to tackle a complex, systemic impediment in a large-scale project. I joined as a Scrum Master for two teams contributing to the development of a mobile app within a highly regulated banking environment, part of a bigger initiative involving four teams. My work helped the teams become highly productive and effective—but the same issue kept surfacing during retrospectives: a long, complicated release process that none of us could control. As a result, we could develop functionalities fast, but it took a lot of time to release them. Frustrated by the lack of progress, I decided to take action. In this session, I’ll explore how I stepped out of the boundaries of my role to address upstream and downstream bottlenecks in the end-to-end process.
