Challenges in building a browser for billions
In the beginning, the Chrome browser was a small product for tech nerds and academics. Several of Chrome’s early engineers were security researchers, keen to bring research ideas to practice. More than a decade later, billions of people around the world use Chrome to go about their daily lives. Today, Chrome’s engineers are deeply conscious of and constrained by the responsibility that comes with broad product adoption. They face different engineering and research problems than the early Chrome engineers. Adriana will talk about the various engineering, research, and product challenges faced by Chrome along this growth journey. What’s hard to do even when you have Google’s resources behind you–or perhaps, what’s hard because of those resources?
