IEEE/ACM ICSE 2026 Symposium on Software Engineering in the Global South (SEiGS)
The IEEE/ACM ICSE 2026 Symposium on Software Engineering in the Global South (SEiGS) is an initiative launched at ICSE 2018, dedicated to fostering a deeper understanding of software engineering challenges, opportunities, and solutions pertinent to the Global South.
This symposium aims to provide a dedicated forum for researchers and practitioners to:
- Share insights
- Discuss regional nuances
- Promote collaborations that address the unique contexts of countries in the Global South
We particularly welcome contributions that highlight:
- Indigenous innovation
- Context-specific methodologies
- The societal impact of software engineering
Call for Submissions
We invite submissions on a broad range of topics related to software engineering in the Global South, including but not limited to:
- Context-aware software development methodologies and practices
- Software engineering for low-resource environments
- Open-source software adoption and contribution in the Global South
- Agile and DevOps practices in diverse cultural and economic contexts
- AI/ML in software engineering, with a focus on ethical and societal implications for the Global South
- Digital transformation and its impact on software development in emerging economies
- Education and training in software engineering for the Global South
- Cybersecurity and privacy concerns in region-specific software systems
- Software engineering for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
- Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and User Experience (UX) in culturally diverse settings
- Empirical studies and case studies from the Global South
- The role of indigenous knowledge and local innovation in software engineering
- Economic and social aspects of software engineering in developing countries
- Challenges and opportunities of remote work and global software development in the Global South
Submission Categories and Guidelines
We invite submissions in the following categories:
-
Full Papers: Up to 8 pages (including all figures, tables, appendices, and references). Should present novel, well-validated research.
-
Short Papers / Experience Reports: Up to 4 pages (including all figures, tables, appendices, and references). May report on preliminary results, ongoing research, or practical experiences.
-
Extended Abstracts: Up to 5 pages (including all figures, tables, appendices, and references). May report on early-stage work, ongoing research, or practical insights.
Note: Extended abstracts are free of APC charges.
All submissions must be:
- Original, unpublished, and not under review elsewhere
- Anonymized for double-blind review
- Formatted using the ACM Primary Article Template
- Submitted via the HotCRP system
Accepted papers will be published in the IEEE/ACM Digital Library. The publication of the accepted papers will require the registration of at least one author in SEiGS 2026, as well as the oral presentation of the paper during the workshop.
