About
A Software Architecture Birds-of-a-Feather (BoF) session is a short, informal forum for discussions related to any aspect of software architecture. Initiated by the IFIP/IEEE Working Conference on Software Architecture, it became a platform for like-minded individuals to connect, exchange ideas, and explore areas of mutual interest.
Call for Papers
Software Architecture is more important than ever. Examples include the AI mega-trend and the Machine Learning (ML) driven architecture decisions, the need to address sustainability goals and related concerns at the architecture level, the role played by LLMs in supporting the architecting of software systems, the practitioners shifting from investing significant efforts in migrating their systems to microservices, the effort in architecting LLM multi-agent systems, the extreme flexibility and adaptability expected by any industry sector given the pervasiveness of software-intensive systems as a result of the digital transformation of modern society, the architecture implications of the application of DevOps and its many specializations, the role of sovereignty in rethinking edge-and cloud-based software architectures.
The above are just a few among the many examples led by new technologies and associated promises, which bring important architecture disruptions and emphasize now more than ever, how crucial it is to master the architecture of software-intensive systems.
Target audience
This BoF aims to attract the participation of both software architecture researchers and practitioners who may be interested in joining the conversation, network and discuss innovation.
IMPORTANT: The BoF can be attended by delegates who are regularly registered for ICSE 2026 conference.
Paper categories
Those who are interested in actively contributing to the discussion may submit:
● Extended Abstracts (up to 2 pages + 1 for references) proposing novel research topics for discussion in the community, or addressing challenging problems from an academic or industrial perspective.
● Position Papers (up to 5 pages + 1 for references) that should describe a specific position or opinion of the authors or provide a well-reasoned and motivated vision.
We are not aiming for the submission of Full Papers.
Submission Information
Submissions will be made via HoTCRP at https://icse2026-sabof.hotcrp.com. Please, note that submissions will follow a single-blind review process.
Papers must be formatted according to ICSE 2026 guidelines (submission process: https://conf.researchr.org/track/icse-2026/icse-2026-research-track). The official publication date of the BoF proceedings is the date the proceedings are made available by ACM. This date may be up to two weeks prior to the first day of ICSE 2026. The official publication date affects the deadline for any patent filings related to published work.]
