Call for Papers

Software engineers continually innovate and streamline the processes and tools that they use to meet the ever-increasing demands for building high-quality software products. This Industry Showcase track will feature presentations on the critical challenges that industry faces in automated software engineering and the innovative solutions built to address them. Presentations will cover lessons learned from applying automated software engineering technology at scale. This track is a unique forum which promotes an active dialogue between the innovative software engineering industry and researchers focusing on changing the direction of software engineering practice.

The Industry Showcase track will feature paper presentations, poster presentations and reviewed talks on practitioner-oriented topics that are relevant and interesting to both industrial and academic attendees.

Solicited topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Testing, verification, and validation
  • Software analysis
  • Empirical software engineering
  • Maintenance and evolution
  • Artificial intelligence for software engineering
  • Software engineering for machine learning and artificial intelligence
  • Software security and trust; data privacy
  • Recommender systems for software engineering
  • Program synthesis & transformations, automated defect repair
  • Program comprehension
  • Mobile app development
  • Automated reasoning techniques
  • Software architecture and design
  • Reverse engineering and re-engineering
  • Model-driven development
  • Knowledge acquisition and management
  • Cloud computing
  • Human-computer interaction
  • Component-based service-oriented systems
  • Continuous integration and continuous delivery
  • Specification languages
  • Configuration management
  • Requirements engineering
  • Software product line engineering
  • Software visualization

Submissions

We are seeking the following types of submissions, all of which must be written exclusively in English. All submissions must be in PDF format and conform, at time of submission, to the ACM Proceedings Template; and should be submitted using Industry Showcases’ HotCRP website.

Talk proposals (2 pages): The proposals should include the talk title, the name and affiliation of each presenter, and a short abstract (150 words). In addition, the proposals should include (i) a “talk description” that outlines the talk, highlighting key points and reasons why it is interesting to ASE attendees (500 words); (ii) a slide deck of the talk with accompanying presentation notes; and (iii) biographies of the presenters (100 words or less.) Talks should be no longer than 20 minutes. Presenters of short listed talk proposals will be interviewed by the program committee.

Each accepted talk will be allowed two pages for an “extended abstract” in the ASE 2020 Proceedings.

Short papers (4+1 pages): Each paper should describe an important industrially-relevant problem and discuss how automated software engineering solutions have been applied to address it in an industrial context. Discussions on the innovation, cost savings and productivity improvements brought by the solution, and important lessons learned should also be discussed if appropriate. Papers submitted to this category must not exceed 4 pages (including figures) plus up to 1 page that contain ONLY references.

Accepted short papers will appear in the ASE 2020 proceedings.

Exhibition proposals (2 pages): The submission should include a poster and a 2-page extended abstract which summarizes similar content required for short papers.

The extended abstract of accepted posters will appear in ASE 2020 proceedings.

Submissions should focus on automation, related tools, and practical challenges in software engineering and not appear as marketing or publicity pitch for tools or products.

We do not use double-blind review, i.e., it is not necessary for authors to hide their identities in the submissions.

Evaluation

All submissions will be reviewed by members of the ASE Industry Showcase Committee. Submissions must not have been previously published or concurrently submitted elsewhere. Submissions will be evaluated based on the practicality to industry, originality, significance of contributions, and quality of presentation and discussion to related work.
