Leveraging Existing Road-Vehicle Standards to address EU AI Act Compliance
This program is tentative and subject to change.
As AI systems are being increasingly deployed in high-stakes domains, regulatory frameworks like the European Union AI Act (EU AIA) play a crucial role in ensuring their safe and responsible use. Under the scope of the AIA, high-risk AI systems are subject to the most requirements, second only to prohibitions on certain applications. While highly regulated sectors, such as road-vehicle industries, may already have standards that support some of these requirements, other domains like education or finance may lack clear guidance on achieving compliance with the EU AIA. This paper addresses this gap by examining how current and upcoming road vehicle safety standards align with the EU AIA’s requirements for high-risk AI systems. The result is a comprehensive mapping that identifies alignments and gaps that organizations shall address for regulated and less-regulated sectors alike. Using this mapping, we present an exemplary assurance argumentation structure for one high-risk AI system requirement.
